    1. I read a book that has been sitting in my desk for a little over a year now. It is called, "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teachers", by Tom Czaban.
The first mindset is, "students mirror the energy your transmit". I really loved this because this is so true. When they enter the classroom if you greet them with excitement, you are going to get the same back in almost all situations. He went on to talk about his teaching career and how he taught high school and college then taught six year olds in China. He said he felt so disconnected from them because they were not doing what he was expecting of him. This is exactly how I am feeling. My students follow my instructions, they enjoy our time, and think I am "so cool", but I feel like I am constantly trying to get them to do what I think is best for them. When in reality, I am clueless on first graders. He said that sometimes we need to step back, reevaluate how we are thinking and adjust according to that age group. I loved this.

    2. I have heard about this book but I have not picked it up to read. It seems like a really good book and has some helpful tips. It would be nice to hear what it is about after you finish it.

  2. “Our Class is a Family” by Shannon Olsen is a charming picture book that highlights the value of establishing a welcoming and inclusive school where kids feel like they belong. In the story, a school is shown as a family where everyone watches out for one another and shows compassion, support, and empathy. The book teaches kids the virtues of kindness, respect, and teamwork while fostering a feeling of community through its straightforward yet impactful writing and pictures. It's an excellent tool for teachers to create a welcoming environment in the classroom.

  3. I am reading a Christmas story called The Christmas Tree Farm by Melody Carlson. It's an easy read. I have read many books by this author and love how she makes her characters relatable. I'll tell you more about the plot next time, as I just started reading this book today.

    1. Hello,
I have to look into reading "Our Classroom is a Family" by Shannon Olsen, because it sounds like a great picture book to showcase in any classroom. Even though it is a picture book, the values of "kindness, respect, and teamwork" seem to be protrayed nicely in this story by what you have described. I think it would be a great reference book for any grade level to showcase that those virtues along with compassion and community can be found on the simplest of platforms to understand.

  5. I am reading Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. I just started this book, I got to page 6. What is happening is the author is developing the characters that are going to be in the story. One of the characters is a vagrant ever since he was 14 because he ran away. It isn't clear where he hails from, but he ends up in Memphis. After a year, he's in St. Louis and then he catches a boat to New Orleans that takes 42 days to traverse the Mississippi. Shortly after he arrives in New Orleans, someone sneaks up on him and shoots him in the back. He goes into a bar, blood on his shirt, then a bartender assists him after he collapses on the floor. He spends two weeks on a cot then gets on a boat to Texas.

the book is about the groups of people in Germany resisted Hitler. the chapter I am on is talking about how when Hitler took power, his primary focus was to undo the wrongs of the treaty of versilles. the main character of the chapter explains that the messages that Hitler was giving captivates exactly what the German people were feeling. the public was ready for Germany to return to its former glory. the character of the chapter worked to urge the dangers of the changes that were being made and warns to not fall for Hitler's messages.

  7. The book that I was reading tonight is "One Crazy Summer" by Rita Williams-Garcia.
This book starts with three sisters going on a trip. They are taking this trip by plane, and they appear nervous about flying.
I have not gotten too much into this story yet.

    1. Hello,
I am interested in hearing how this story progresses after the main characters aboard the plane and it takes off. I for one have only traveled by plane(s) once in my life and that was when I was moving to Springfield, Missouri from San Jose, California last year. I had a lay over in Settle, Washington which made me switch planes... Flying was not enjoyable for me. Maybe it was because it was my very first time and doing so with two cats in one carrier. Or it was the elevation because to avoid having a major headache, I tried to sleep the entire time I was aboard the plane(s).
I am also a very slow reader, so I didn't get that far in my reading during the ten minutes we read in class.

  8. Hello everyone,
I started to read Avatar The Last Airbender: The Search created by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante Dimartino. This is the story of how the Fire Lord; Zuko goes on the search for his mother that was banished from the Fire Nation when he was a young boy. If you are familiar with Nickelodeon's animated television show; Avatar The Last Airbender, then you should enjoy reading the adventures that take place after the final episode that premiered on July 19th, 2008. This is a comic book type story by DARK HORSE BOOKS. I absolutely loved watching the Avatar The Last Airbender series and always wondered what had happened to Zuko's mother as well.
From the ten minutes that I spent reading tonight, I got up to the point where the Avatar gang are at a meeting in a small town of the Earth Kingdom where Aang is trying to obtain advice from older and more experienced elders to how he could modify this small town to be a prototype for a city that welcomes and coexists all of the nations. During this meeting, Zuko realizes that the pass year of being Fire Lord, he has not been leading as a good example because his family is no-existent really. He put his chaotic sister in a psych ward, he put his father behind bars and his mother is nowhere to be found. After the meeting, he goes to visit both his sister and father to ask them about his mother and her whereabouts. While he lets his sister and his father chit chat before he asks them his questions, there are flashback scenes of how his mother and father first became a couple.
